Archipelago Network at the Syros International Film Festival (SIFF)

The Archipelago Network is honored to participate in the 11th Syros International Film Festival (SIFF) under the title “Passage.”

On Monday, July 31, the short films by Jacob Moe on the “Boatbuilding on Syros,” created as part of the homonymous research program of the Archipelago Network, are screened at the “Tarsanas” Shipyard.

“Boatbuilding on Syros” is a series of video-portraits that follows five boatbuilders of the island narrating stories of a society in transition. The docu-series offers a “window” into the lives, work environment, and techniques of these boatbuildiers who continue this tradition in Syros today. The films feature: Makis Mavrikos, Thanasis Blamis, Nikolaos Karamolegos, Manolis Zorzos, and Spyros Xagoraris.

Passing into its second decade, the Syros International Film Festival (SIFF), arrives in the capital of the Cyclades from July 28–31. With Passage as the central theme for this edition, SIFF initiates a dialogue between audience and moving image, exploring states of transition between notions such as reality and fiction, life and death, personal memory and history, tradition and modernity, through a diverse selection of local and international works.
