Sifnos, 1961-71 | Pottery of Sifnos

During a family vacation on the island of Sifnos at the age of 15, Andreas Psacharopoulos picked up an 8mm Paillard Bolex and began filming his surroundings: family gatherings, outings to villages all across the island, and moments of everyday life. Transferred to VHS and digitized, the resulting hour-long film is a rare audiovisual document of Sifnos at a time when the local economy was still driven by pottery trade and agricultural production, at the cusp of modern-day touristic development. Giorgos Bouris’s pottery workshop in the coastal village of Platys Gialos appears at the 24 minute mark.
