Maritime Trades of the Cyclades: Screening and discussion at Athens City Museum
as part of the event “The Islands of Greece: Archipelago of Love and Freedom”
Archipelago Network invites you on Friday, May 9 at 18:00 for a screening of three short documentaries from our “Maritime Trades of the Cyclades” project. The screening will be followed by a discussion with the films’ director and AN’s founder Jacob Moe, moderated by journalist Lena Kyriakidi.
The Cyclades are home to a rich tradition of maritime crafts and trades that have flourished in Greece from antiquity to the present day. This screening explores the legacy of three interconnected practices—wooden boatbuilding, fishing, and seafaring, featuring boatbuilder Thanasis Vlamis from Syros, captain Ioannis Carras from Santorini, and historian Ioannis Vassiliopoulos from Paros.
