Presentation at the Symposium “Serifos: From Perseus to the Present” in Athens

Archipelago Network co-director Jacob Moe participates in the symposium “Serifos: From Perseus to the Present,” organized by the Institute for Serifian Studies. His talk, titled Extraction in the Cyclades: Archival and Artistic Research in Serifos, is part of the thematic session on Industrial History and Intangible Cultural Heritage.

The symposium takes place on Saturday, May 24, 2025, 10:00-17:00, at the Athens University History Museum (5 Tholou Str., Plaka).

In his presentation, Moe focuses on Archipelago Network’s latest project, Extraction in the Cyclades: Digital Traces, a living archive that explores the multifaceted and interconnected dimensions of extractive activity in the Cyclades. The talk, presenting audiovisual and photographic media, highlights archival research undertaken in the context of this project in Serifos, as well as elements of the digital arts projects realized by Ignacio Acosta and Sofia Dona related to Serifos’s mining and labor history.
